Riverside Harvest Gala

Jennifer McCharen and Jill Liberatori at RADO sent me some information about their Riverside Harvest Gala tomorrow night, 7-11, at 5 Points Theater. According to the invite:

"Price at the door includes food, beverage tickets, and entertainment by DJ Triclops I and The Royal Treatment. Fundraiser benefitting RADO in an effort to continue building sustainable and obtainable communities."

RADO is really doing wonderful things to make Riverside/Avondale a great place to live for diverse groups of people. Anything you can do to support them is time and money well spent.

And, there's breakdancing! (All this and breakdancing, too?)

I'm delighted to learn that RADO has jumped into the world of blogging:

If you're not familiar, RADO is the Riverside Avondale Development Organization and they are ensuring affordable housing still exists in the beautiful neighborhood of Riverside/Avondale in Jacksonville.


Jennifer McCharen, also of Jacksonville Carbon Neutral Initiative, sent me the heads-up today and we are excited to see their blog take off.


Good causes deserve good press. Be sure to visit.

Why it's good to live and work downtown

I can't pass up an opportunity to give support to two worthy causes, and it's especially convenient when I can support two of them at the same time:

RADO and Green Team Project (aka Sarah Boren)

Riverside Avondale Development Organization is sponsoring the film, "The End of Suburbia" which (according to Jennifer McCharen at RADO) "is basically a detailed explanation of how screwed we’ll be (we sprawl-builders and SUV-drivers) when the oil runs out and/or the planet decides to annihilate us. Yay!"

I've not seen it so I cannot personally endorse the film one way or another, but knowledge is always powerful, so get thee to Fuel on October 4th at 7pm. View. Report back.

And, Sarah Boren, my fellow USGBC committee member and executive director of the Green Team Project will be on hand to field questions afterward. She is quite knowledgeable on all things green and the opportunity to pick her brain is time well spent.
