Green Roofs

What's so green about this roof?

Nothing... yet.

Picture it lush with vegetation. A learning lab for green building. Contributing to a sustainable solution.

Stay tuned as Breaking Ground shares their "vegetative roof" journey with you.

Keep an eye out for future articles from the owner, the landscape artist, the installers... They will share their challenges, obstacles, opportunities, and succeses throughout the process.
We hope this will encourage more business owners to consider vegetative roofs and living walls. (Oh, did I mention the living walls? Coming soon to a contracting firm near you!)
Stay tuned!

Mary and team are truly innovative. A green roof in Jacksonville! What a challenge! This roof will be an extensive roof with no irrigation and low growing - frost and drought-proof plants (I'd hate to see trees or shrubs launched from a roof like missles during a hurricane!!!)

We will be kicking off the project with a mini-charrette involving the roofer, insurance company, BGC staff and myself soon - and will keep all posted on the direction we take!

I will be posting more as we go - including schematic design data! Stay tuned!

Hi Kevin,

This is such an exciting project! After attending the e3 conference last week, I'm even more certain that this is the right decision for our company. One of the presenters that specialized in cool and green roof options stated that a green roof will extend the life or your roof membrane by almost double, IF it is installed correctly and well-planned.

I'm confident that our roof will be a learning laboratory for those interested in sustainable roof options.

Looking forward...

I like the idea of a green roof - can this be done on a residential property (e.g. my house?)
